Honoring this year's Hispanic Heritage Month, we invite you to join us for a virtual chat with Julie Rubio, President of Women in Film San Francisco Bay Area (WIFSFBA).  Julie is an accomplished award-winning filmmaker with over 15 awards to her name including the acclaimed "East Side Sushi" available on HBO, Peacock, Amazon Prime and more.  Discover Julie's inspiring journey in the film industry and secrets to her success, the challenges she's overcome, and how she's making a difference.  "A Conversation with Julie Rubio" provides a unique opportunity to connect with Indie filmmakers and learn more about Latino culture and its influence in the entertainment industry.

Julie is an award-winning film producer, writer, director, and actor.  In 2002, Rubio founded East Meets West Productions, under which she produced the acclaimed feature film "East Side Sushi".  This film garnered accolades at 16 film festivals & was nominated for Cinema Tropical's 2016 Best Latino Film of the Year as well as Mexico's Diosa De Plata award for Best Picture.  "East Side Sushi" has enjoyed both domestic and international distribution via the Samuel Goldwyn Company, Sony Home, HBO North America, and Netflix, where it recently trended in both the most popular and drama categories.


Rubio has a number of other projects.  She wrote, directed, and produced "Too Perfect," which found its audience domestically on Amazon Prime & internationally through Osiris Entertainment.  She also took on the roles of writer, director, & producer for "Six Sex Scenes and a Murder", available on Netflix and Apple TV.  Among other cinematic ventures Rubio has helmed are "Soledad is Gone Forever" for Haiku Films, "Oakland B Mine", the comedic "Del Cielo", "Everything is Temporary", & "Impression".  Her films have graced numerous domestic and international festivals, including the Los Angeles Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Cinequest, Miami International Film Festival, Napa Valley Film Festival, CAAMFest, San Francisco Latino Film Festival, World Film Festival of Bangkok, AFS American Center in Moscow, AFS Art Film Gallery in Yerevan, Armenia, and many others.
